Salt and Apostasy

Luke 14:34-35 — Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out.” Jesus closed His sermon to the multitudes with this illustration about salt losing its taste. He used this illustration on two other occasions, but what He did mean in this context? What does the salt losing its “saltiness” represent? And how might it apply to us today?
