Psalm 13 — “How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD?” This short song in the Bible’s hymnal finds David at a very low ebb. He feels like the LORD has forgotten him. He feels like the LORD has withdrawn his favour from Him and his enemies are in the ascendancy. But then there is a remarkable turnaround! In just six verses David goes from sorrowing to singing! He affirms his confidence in God and acknowledges God’s compassion and grace.
This is a song that every Christian will identify with at some point in their lives. We all experience seasons of extended pressure and suffering. We may even feel as though God has withdrawn His favour for us. We are encouraged as we study this Psalm to know that this is part of the normal Christian experience. We’re also encouraged as we see that there is always a way up, always a reason to sing!
