Colossians 2:14 — Debt is vital for a healthy economy and a healthy society and yet it is something we would all rather do without! For some, their debt is so burdensome it dominates their life and destroys their relationship.
The Bible speaks of sin in a number of ways. It is the transgression of God’s law, it is a failure to meet His standard and it is also a debt. Our failure to obey God’s law means we owe Him and He righteously demands satisfaction. In this text, the Apostle Paul talks about our sin debt and about how God has blotted it out by the death of Jesus.
“I owed a debt I could not pay, He paid a debt He did not owe. I needed someone to wash my sins away…” (E.J. Crum)
