Luke 11:45-54 — “Woe unto you also, ye lawyers!…” A lawyer in First Century Judea and Galilee was akin to a cross between a law professor and a minister of religion. He was an expert in the Law of Moses and primarily a teacher. Many lawyers also belonged to the sect of the Pharisees or were natural allies of the Pharisees.
After denouncing the Pharisees for their hypocrisy, Jesus turned His attention to the lawyers and confronted them for their hypocrisy and their mishandling of the Law of God. As we consider what Jesus said, we are reminded of some vitally important truths concerning God’s Law and how it relates to our Christian lives.
How do you feel about the Law of God? Is it a blessing? Or is it a burden?
