Psalm 119:12 — “Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.” When we think of what it means to be a disciple, we often think of following, obeying and trusting. While discipleship does involve these things, what we must not forgot, is that to be a disciple is to be one who learns. Indeed, this is the primary meaning of the word that appears in the New Testament. Christians are people who learn from Jesus.
Psalm 119 is famous for its considerable length and for the way in which the author lifts up the Word of God. The Psalm also gives us a wonderful description of the heart of a true disciple. It’s good for us to consider this description and see if it resembles our heart.
