Luke 4:31-37 — It is an odd thing that our increasingly secular society is fascinated by the supernatural. Witchcraft, encounters with spirits and demon possession are frequently the subjects of television shows and movies. The Bible clearly teaches the existence of a supernatural realm of angels and demons but how these are portrayed in popular culture is often far from accurate.
During His public ministry, Jesus had many encounters with people possessed by demons. In this text Jesus was confronted by a possessed man in the synagogue at Capernaum. As we consider this story in our study through Luke’s Gospel, we find some essential truths that help us think soberly about demons and demon possession. We are also encouraged as we witness the power of our Savour, the Lord Jesus Christ!
