I Timothy 1:5 — “Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned…” One of the major pastoral concerns that animated the Apostle Paul was the impact of false teaching among the Christians at Ephesus. It was a serious threat to their love for God and for each other. This is why he commissioned Timothy to deal with those in the church who were responsible for spreading it.
When sound doctrine is taught love is the result, and in the second half of this verse we’re told where that love comes from. It comes from a heart that has received and experienced God’s love. It comes from a pure heart, a good conscience and sincere faith.
