Luke 11:14-20 — “Some of them said, He [Jesus] casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils…” This accusation was the most thorough repudiation possible of Jesus’ claims, as well as a terrible assault on His character. He was not only a fraud, said these men, but in league with the Devil.
The depth of this unbelief and animosity is staggering and it’s probably quite a long way from our experience. Even before we were Christians we probably didn’t have this level of hatred towards Jesus. So what is there for us in this part of Luke’s Gospel? Could we more like the men who made this accusation than we might think? What should we make of Jesus’ reply that, “a house divided against a house falleth?” Listen and find out!
