Isaiah 45 — “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me…” Isaiah ministered in Judah at least 100 years before the Babylonian Captivity. In his day, Assyria was the great threat to Judah’s existence not Babylon, but in this chapter there is a prophecy about Judah’s return from captivity in Babylon and about the king who would set them free — the king is even mentioned by name!
In this sermon our focus is not so much on the prophecy and its fulfilment but on what we learn about God. Isaiah chapter 45 contains the foundational truths of Christian theology and it does us much good to come back to these truths time and again.
