Luke 8:19-21 — Matthew, Mark and Luke all record an incident where Jesus’ mother and His brothers came to where He was teaching in order to speak with Him. Evidently, this was something out of the ordinary – Jesus’ family had some special reason to come and interrupt His public ministry. When Jesus heard that His family had arrived, He made a rather intriguing statement, “My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.”
In this sermon we think about who Jesus’ brothers were, unfortunately there has been a lot of confusion about this over the centuries. We then consider what motivated His family to come, and we finish with Jesus’ response and what it means for us today.
