Luke 12:13-21 — “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” These words came in reply to a man who asked Jesus to intervene in a dispute with his brother over an inheritance, and they were followed by the Parable of the Rich Fool. When we consider the context, it’s not hard to work out what was in this man’s heart.
In these familiar verses there is a timely reminder about a sin to which we are all susceptible. We can be driven by an unhealthy desire for material things without even realising it. In this sermon we consider Jesus’ warning about covetousness and we take some time to think about what exactly it is, and what’s not.
