The Blind & The Deaf

Leviticus 19:14 — Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.” In this command we see God’s deep concern for vulnerable people — a concern that is apparent all over the Law. We also see it in His dealings with Israel, in the ministry of Jesus and in the life of the Early Church.

As God’s people we are called to care for the poor, for orphans, for widows and for those living with disabilities. The great evangelical reformer John Calvin expressed it this way, “Let us learn from these words, that the weaker people are, the more secure ought they to be from all oppression or injury.”
