Luke 11:1-4 — “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray…” In reply to this disciple’s request Jesus gave what we know as the “Lord’s Prayer.” He gave it as part of His Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter 6 and He repeated it here in Luke chapter 11.
In this sermon we think about what prompted the disciple to make this request — did he not know how to pray? If he did know, why did he ask Jesus to teach him? What might this disciple’s request and Jesus’ response have to teach us about prayer?
