Luke 24:11 — “And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.” It was a group of women who first discovered that Jesus body was not in the tomb. When they entered the tomb they were met by two angels who told them that Jesus had risen from he dead just as He said He would. These women were among Jesus most devoted followers and when they told the eleven disciples what they’d seen, they were not believed. In fact, the eleven thought they were speaking nonsense!
Why were these faithful women not believed? What does this tell us about how the disciples were feeling after Jesus’ resurrection? It tells us that they were completely shattered. Their whole world had collapsed. But then in midst of their sorrow and confusion, the resurrected Lord Jesus appeared and gave them peace. This is what Jesus does — He gives peace to all who will receive it.
