Matthew 24:29-31 — “Then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” As we continue our study through the Olivet Discourse, we come the the final signs that will precede Jesus’ return. These will be unprecendeted and experienced by everyone around the world. Then Jesus gives a description of His return and the gathering together of His chosen people. Jesus makes the point that His Second Coming will be seen by all, and most who see it will be utterly distressed.
When we study this part of the Discourse, we see Jesus drawing heavily from the Old Testament. We see how the rich body of prophecy in the Old Testament connects to the New, and coheres in the Person and Work of Christ. Scripture is telling one wonderful story.
