Luke 2:25-35 — When Joseph & Mary came to the Temple with the child Jesus they had a fascinating encounter with an elderly man named Simeon. Simeon had been faithfully waiting for Messiah and had received a promise from the Lord that he would see Messiah before his death. When it finally happened in the Temple on this particular day, Simeon took the child Jesus in His arms and blessed the Lord. He then gave Mary a message marked by sadness – her son would be opposed and she would experience great heartache. …In this sermon we consider the Song of Simeon and the message to Mary. We are challenged to think about how Simeon’s words concerning Jesus apply to us today.
