Matthew 26:1-5 — “Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people…and consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.” As we turn out attention towards Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we begin with a message on the plot to kill Jesus. In the hours before Judas met with Jesus’ enemies, there was meeting held in Jerusalem among the highest echelons of the Jewish leadership. They gathered in the High Priest’s palace to organise Jesus’ murder.
In this sermon, we think about who was present at this meeting, what they wanted to do and why. We enter into the great darkness that descended over Jerusalem, and we see how God brought out of it unimaginable light!
