Luke 6:39-40 — “Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.”
What did Jesus mean when He made this statement midway through His sermon in Luke 6? What was He trying to communicate to His audience? At the very least He wanted His hearers to think (!) …and He wants us to think too.
We live in a world where everyone is following someone. The explosion of social media bears this out. To what extent are we following those we “follow?” Is our worldview being shaped by thinkers who are blind? Does the wisdom of this world have more sway over us than the wisdom of God? That’s what Jesus challenges us to consider in this powerful little text.
