Colossians 2:8-9 — “Beware lest any man spoil you…” This is the second command in Paul’s letter to the Colossians, it’s an exhortation to be alert to false teachers who would rob them of all the benefits and blessings that were theirs in Christ. Paul describes how these teachers would attempt to do that and he points them once again to the all-sufficient Christ.
The danger that false teachers pose to our spiritual well-being is as clear and pressing as it’s ever been. Sadly, there are many Christian today who have been distracted and drawn away from Christ either by false doctrine or by an unhealthy fascination with secondary matters. No matter where we are in the Christian life, we need the warning that Paul gives in this part of the letter.
