II John 8 — “Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.” The Apostle John realised that if false teaching were to take root among the Christian community, his brothers and sisters would lose some very precious things. They would lose things that they had worked towards. There would also be eternal consequences. This is why it was so important that they keep a close eye on themselves and on who they were allowing to influence their beliefs.
The warning to John’s original readers is just as applicable to Christians today, if not more so. We live at a time when false teachers have never had a greater opportunity to bring their message into Believer’s home and hearts.
