Isaiah 9:6 — “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder…” This is a famous verse speaks of the child whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. It’s a verse we love to sing and meditate on. Over the next few weeks we’re going to think about the names that the prophet ascribes to this child – “Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”
In this first sermon, we consider the context in which Isaiah was writing and the judgment that was soon to fall upon God’s people because of their rebellion. It was into a world of spiritual darkness and oppression that this special child would be born.
