Forbidden Fruit

Leviticus 19:23-25 — When the people of Israel planted fruit trees they were forbidden from eating the fruit for the first three seasons. In the fourth season all the fruit was to be dedicated to the LORD. It was only in the fifth season that the fruit could be eaten or taken to market. What was the purpose of this rather obscure command? Does it have any application to our lives today as the New Covenant people of God?
