Depravity & Desecration – Pt 1

Jeremiah 7:29-8:1Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places…” All that was left for Judah to do was mourn. No longer was God calling His rebellious people to repent, rather He had rejected and forsaken “the generation of His wrath.” The Babylonians were going to come and destroy the city, take thousands into captivity and kill many more.

Why had it come to this? That’s what Jeremiah explains in this passage. The citizens of Jerusalem had committed sins more heinous than we can imagine.

As we consider this awful period in Judah’s history we learn some important things about ourselves. We’re also reminded of God’s incredible love and grace — grace that is greater than all our sin.
